In the early 18th century, the Shrine of Our Lady Health Bojaca was a humble parish church. When Don José Pérez died in 1757, he donated a miraculous image of Our Lady of Sorrows he had brought with him from Spain to the church. In honor of the miracles delivered to worshippers, the church was renamed to Our Lady of Health of Bojacá, and the image of the Virgin placed in the left nave. Behind the church, marble plates detail the miracles associated with the image.
