Colombia
This little mountain village has one of the best indigenous markets in the country.
Sitting 2800 meters up in the mountains, Silvia is a picturesque village surrounded by stunning scenery. The town is the heart of the Guambiano region, which is home to perhaps the most traditional indigenous population in Colombia. The Guambianos have their own language, traditional dress, still utilize long-established farming techniques, and are famously skilled weavers. Every Tuesday, they descend on Silvia to sell their wares in a colorful, bustling market, that’s usually wrapped up around noon. On non-market days, there’s still Guambiano to be found going about their daily business, and the town’s charming church and spectacular surrounding are more than enough to keep your eyes busy.
