Located 30 miles from Port Moresby, the Sogeri Plateau is perched at an elevation of around 1600 feet above the capital. Paired with frequent rain showers, the area provides a cool, pleasing climate — a relief compared to the capital's humid atmosphere. The main inhabited locality in the area is Sogeri, a quaint rural town surrounded by lush rainforests and stunning mountain views that serves as an entry to the renowned Kokoda Track, a historic site where Australian forces once bravely prevented the advance of the Japanese army during WW2. Being the heartland of the Koiari tribes, the Sogeri Plateau thrives on its rich agricultural production, including cattle, rubber, and an assortment of fruits. Adding to the allure of Sogeri are the several retreats such as the Koitaki Country Club, Sogeri Lodge, and the Kokoda Trail Motel.
