New Zealand
From New Zealand’s first car to a multi-million dollar Bugatti, this museum is filled with fascinating vehicles.
The heart of the Southward Car Museum is the personal collection of Sir Len Southward and his wife Vera. Sir Southward was a marine engineering pioneer and speed enthusiast, famously becoming the first man in Australasia to bring a boat over 100 mph. In 1956, the couple began collecting cars, starting with a Ford Model T, and by 1976, their collection had grown to the point where they opened a museum. Today, over 400 vehicles are on display in the Southward Car Museum, ranging from classics like the Model T, to cultural curiosities like the last ever NW police motor bike, the VW bug from Herbie, and the space car from Woody Allen's 60s sci-fi comedy The Sleeper. And if you’re looking for something a little more luxe, there's a $4 million Bugatti to oggle.
