Sovereign Hill is an open-air museum dedicated to educating visitors about Australia’s heritage through fun activities such as gold panning, candlemaking and musket firing. See history come to life as you wander the town’s streets that are filled with horses, carriages and gold miners decked out in 1850’s period garb. Volunteers are happy to welcome you into their homes or shops and talk to you about their lives during the first gold rush in Victoria. Snap a picture outside of the apothecary or bowling saloon before heading into the candle-lit Secret Chamber full of tunnels and shafts to see what the walls reveal! Visitors to Sovereign hill have free access to the Gold Museum as well to get more information about this golden age.
