Sri Lanka Planetarium

As the first and sole planetarium in the country, this destination holds a unique place in Sri Lanka's scientific landscape.

About

The Sri Lanka Planetarium, located in Colombo, has been captivating stargazers and curious students since its inauguration in 1965. Upon approaching the planetarium, visitors are immediately struck by its distinctive and intriguing architecture, as the building takes the form of a lotus in full bloom. Visitors can embark on a cosmic journey in the central dome, where a state-of-the-art 4D projector illuminates the cosmos in all its splendor. Experience the night sky from distant lands, witnessing phenomena like the midnight sun in the Arctic Circle, solar eclipses, meteor showers, and comets. The planetarium also hosts a range of engaging activities, such as science exhibitions, workshops, and seminars that attract enthusiasts from Sri Lanka and beyond. The planetarium is open 8:30AM to 4PM, closed on Sunday and Monday.
