Antigua and Barbuda
This church is celebrated for its striking green hue, authenticity that has withstood the test of time, and a character that's both modest and distinguished
Located in the town of Liberta, just over a mile north of Falmouth, St Barnabas Anglican Church often draws quirky descriptions from visitors, thanks to a blend of architectural styles and its striking green color. This distinct hue actually stems from the stone with which the church is built—a stone found in the Liberta area, used in other buildings as well. The church's construction dates back to some time between the 1820s and 1840s. Originally built as a chapel school, it was converted into a church after an 1843 earthquake destroyed a nearby church in Falmouth. St Barnabas has truly stood the test of time, surviving various natural disasters over the years. In order to maintain its unique style, it was reconstructed without altering its character in the late 20th century. Please note that Daytrip does not guarantee the church will be open at all hours or that there won't be entrance fees; be sure to verify these details separately.
