Ireland
Looking like it’s from medieval France, this is the on Victorian cathedral in Ireland to retain its original interior.
Construction on St. Colman's Cathedral began in 1868, but the building wasn’t completed and consecrated until 1919. Inspired by the great Gothic cathedrals on the continent, the cathedral’s facade looks many centuries old, and wouldn’t be out of place in France. The only Victorian-era Irish Catholic cathedral to preserve its original interior, Colman’s decor is a distinctive blend of Gothic and Baroque, where medieval-style stonework is rendered in more decadent colors and materials, like pink marble. The 300 foot-tall-tower contains a 49-bell carillon, one of the largest in Europe, which strikes the hour and 15 minute intervals.
