Sweden
Soar through the fascinating history of Swedish aviation at the nation’s largest aircraft museum, full of exhibitions in pristine condition and thrilling flight simulators.
The Air Force Museum or “Flygvapenmuseum'' at the Malmen Airbase in Malmslätt attracts over 170,000 visitors a year, with its stunning array of almost 60 different military planes and helicopters from past and present. Housed in two hangars with a huge exhibition space, a ticket to the museum will grant you access to everything from early biplanes to modern jet fighters. A flying school was established here in 1912 by Baron Carl Cederström, the “Flyer Baron”, and you can even get a taste for yourself in the JAS 39 Gripen - a simulator in which you fly a modern fighter jet. Visit the museum cellar to learn the dramatic history of a Swedish reconnaissance plane that was shot down during the Cold War. The Air Force Museum is open Wednesday and Thursday from 10AM to 4PM and Friday to Sunday from 10AM to 4PM, excluding public holidays, and the entrance fee starts from around US$7.80.
