This ornamental cottage showcases the enchanting beauty of nature.
The Swiss Cottage was built in the early 19th century for Richard Butler, first Earl of Glengall. Designed by famed Regency architect John Nash, the cottage has a distinctively natural feel with its thatched roof and external woodwork resembling branched trees. Made for entertaining guests, this motif carries over to the interior its elegant spiral staircase, and nature-inspired decor. The wallpaper in the salon is of particular interest not just for its pattern, but because it was one of the first commercially produced Parisian wallpapers, manufactured by the Dufour factory.
