Peru
This quiet city is dotted with monuments remembering its dedication to its country.
In one of the southern-most parts of Peru, Tacna is known for its role in Peru’s independence and the War of the Pacific. During the War of the Pacific, Tacna was occupied by Chile for 50 years, always resisting Chilean propaganda. Finally, In 1929, the Peruvian nationalists prevailed and the Treaty of Lima was signed. This treaty allowed Tacna to remain a part of Peru, a great victory for the people of Tacna. The main attractions of this city revolve around monuments dedicated to the war and Peruvian’s independence - this is Peru’s most patriotic city, after all. Before leaving, stop by the Cathedral de Tacna, a lovely colonial structure in the center of town. You’ll arrive there via the Paseo Civico, which is a relaxing promenade decorated with lush shrubbery and many places to sit and enjoy the afternoon!
