Enjoy striking mountain scenery and the native flora and fauna of Otavalo at this little-known cascade.
Just 7 km from Otavalo sits the Taxopamba Waterfall, a crystal clear hidden gem at the base of the Mojanda volcano. It is one of the lesser-visited waterfalls in the region and a well-kept secret of the locals, making it the perfect retreat into the wilds of the Otavalo mountains. From the road, it is a twenty minute hike to reach the falls where you will walk among lush vegetation and crops which are harvested by local farmers. If you’re not sure you are going the right way just look out for the red spots on the trees which help to guide the way! As you get close you can hear the water cascading down the two jumps - follow the sound and you will soon be met by the pristine waters of Taxopamba. Please note: the rugged terrain requires sturdy shoes!
