Te Mata Estate Winery

This family-owned winery is the oldest in New Zealand, producing some of the country’s finest wines from its protected vineyards.

About

The Te Mata Estate Winery has been continuously operating since 1895, making it the oldest winery in the country. It’s been considered one of New Zealand’s finest wine producers throughout its history - it even won a Gold Medal for its Cabernet in the Imperial International Exhibition in 1909. The first vineyard in the country to be protected by law, the Te Mata Estate is all about wine - there’s no restaurant or hotel here. While you’re free to visit the shop for a tasting at your leisure, you can also book a tour in advance to walk the vineyards and learn more about the winery’s history and production process, and of course enjoy a tasting at the end. There’s even a VIP option to expand the tasting to include cellared vintages in a private setting overlooking the estate. Both tour options must be booked in advance at https://temata.co.nz/age-gate?redir=/te-mata-estate/tours-and-tastings.
