An absolute hit with children, this zoo takes animal protection and nature conservation to another level.
Temaiken Biopark is not just your typical zoo: every corner of this place was carefully designed with animals’ welfare in mind. Home to over seven thousand animals and dozens of endangered species, this foundation has made it its mission to study and protect the local environment and educate visitors on all things flora and fauna. The animals here are not kept in cages but are separated from the visitors by natural barriers such as moats or hedges, which allows to recreate their natural environments. Temaiken offers several pavilions: “Africa”, “Patagonia”, and “Mesopotamia”, each a home to the respective area’s species, and pavilions with marine life with birds. The foundation also hosts educational lectures for children and adults, as well as animal welfare projects such as rehabilitation programs for trafficked animals. Hungry visitors will find restaurants with local cuisine and ice cream booths all around the area. The biopark is located about 40 minutes away from Buenos Aires, it is open every day except for Mondays (and Tuesdays depending on the season), and both Spanish and English-speaking staff are available on site.
