This distinctive domed structure was the first Central American temple of a little-known and much-persecuted equality-loving religion.
Inaugurated in 1972, the Templo Baha'i was the religion’s first house of worship in Central America. The Bahá'í Faith was established by Bahá'u'lláh in 1863 in Persia, and its followers have been relentlessly persecuted in the region since its inception. Why? Because they preach universal peace, unity, and equality amongst all people and religions. The temple’s distinctive white parabolic dome can be seen from afar, appearing as a giant white egg on a hilltop overlooking Panama City. Despite its proximity to the bustling metropolis, the temple is an oasis of calm, its dome offering welcome respite from the hot sun for both people and the small birds that flit freely about, its garden a peaceful place for a contemplative walk. If you’d like to learn more about this minority religion, just ask the attendant - they leave visitors to themselves unless you show interest first.
