Tequisquiapan

Founded in by the Spanish in 1551, the heart of Tequisquiapan has remained largely unchanged for the past 300 years. The cobbled streets are lined with colonial houses in pastel hues, with the pink, Neo-Classical Church of Santa María de la Asunción dominating the main square. There's a large population of indigenous Otomi people, who are easily identifiable by their vibrant dress, who offer handicrafts at the town's market. The many spas and waterparks around the city fill their pools with natural spring water said to have restorative properties, but for more adult homeopathic medication, Tequisquiapan is also part of the Querétaro wine route. While viticulture was only introduced here in the 1960s, its become such an important industry that grapes are featured on the coat of arms and the city hosts the National Cheese and Wine Fair every year!
