Teza Tea Factory

Some of the most beautiful landscape in all of Burundi is located on the edge of Kibira forest, where a tea plantation rolls across forest and hillsides.

About

Cultivated among valleys of mountains and thermal springs on the Congo-Nile ridge, the Teza Tea Plantation is an unbelievable marvel of bright green carpet, spreading over 1,200 hectares. Burundi coffee and tea are the most profitable exports of the country, and this plantation produces some of the finest. Tea has been growing in the area since it was introduced during Belgian occupation and has now become a striking destination to snap some photos, walk among the foliage and talk to some of the friendly farmers. Today, the plantation is run by Burundian locals who are passionate about producing high-quality teas while also supporting the local community. The tea produced at Teza is organic and sustainably grown, ensuring that it is both healthy for the environment and the people who consume it. The locals may even lend you their harvesting hats and buckets for a first-hand experience.
