The Abbey of Saint Sixtus of Westvleteren

Drinking the heavenly beer from this abbey's historic brewery borders on a religious experience.

About

Founded in the 13th century, the Abbey of Saint Sixtus of Westvleteren rose to prominence in the 19th century when its brewery was established. Since then, the abbey has produced its beer in extremely limited quantities, with the 20 monks placing instilling their sense of community values into the beer itself - dictating that the beer only be sold by the glass at meeting centers. Because of the beer’s quality and exclusivity, the abbey has become a point of pilgrimage for beer lovers, who flock to taste the renowned brew straight from the source.
