The Donkey Sanctuary of Mallow was founded in 1987 with a simple purpose: to improve conditions for donkeys and mules. Over the years it’s cared for over 5,600 neglected donkeys and mules, and is presently giving love and care to over 1800. Visitors are free to walk the grounds to see the donkeys, who are friendly and affectionate, often coming to the edge of their enclosures for pets. The sanctuary staff are happy to share the donkeys’ rescue stories, and often hold donkey care courses to educate visitors about donkey welfare.
