Inhabited for thousands of years, this ancient site is a testament to Bulgaria's rich history.
This settlement of the infamous Thracian empire was first settled around the 13th century BC, when a pyramid and tombs were carved out of the rocky hills. Archaeological excavations have uncovered hundreds of artefacts were found, like clay human idols, and figures of the gods, along with tools and equipment. The main attraction, the sanctuary, was built between the 5th and the 4th BC, and features a 3-meter-deep well, two sarcophagi, and a rectangular bed for the main altar. Today, visitors can see these amazing ancient sites, learn about their history, and get the sense of the ancient Bulgarian culture, all while enjoying the scenic setting. Please note the site the site is reachable only on foot from a nearby parking lot. The distance between the site and the parking lot is about half a kilometer.
