While traveling through the South Island, Timaru is a great spot to spend the night or take a day break from the exhausting outdoor activities that New Zealand has to offer. There is a ton to discover including an abundance of museums & galleries, charming parks and relaxing beach walks. One of the town’s most popular activities is to walk to the Marine Parade after sundown to watch the adorable little blue penguins return to their burrows for a night’s rest. In the Caroline Bay there is the South Beach Coastal track which will provide you with a relaxing walk along the beach where you can watch surfers and look for wildlife such as penguins and seals! If you consider yourself a beer connoisseur, there is also the DB Draught Brewery that you can tour to learn about the past and present methods of brewing beer.
