Home to monuments like the world’s oldest copper mine and stunning natural scenery, this park has plenty to discover.
Located in the unforgiving Negev Desert, Timna Park is an oasis for nature and history lovers. The 15,000 acre valley is criss-crossed with hiking loops that offer everything from a short jaunt to a full day trek. Throughout the park, you’ll shafts from copper mines dating back to around 5000 BC and early smelting furnaces - possibly the very first in the world. Other highlights include mushroom-shaped rocks, and Solomon’s Pillars - a set of sandstone columns perfectly formed by erosion. Nearby, you’ll find Egyptian rock carvings and a miner’s temple. Along with the stunning natural landscape and fascinating history, Timna Park offers another diversion: paddling in the man-made lake!
