A circular watchtower situated in the village of the same name proudly stands on the right bank of the Kura River, perfect for a contemplative stop.
The Tower of Akhaldaba is a formidable medieval structure, believed to have served as an outpost for the Akhaldaba Castle, positioned on a mountain to the south of the village. Originating from the 17th or 18th century, the tower is constructed with cobblestones and showcases the architectural style of the era. Although now in ruins, it retains its distinctive circular shape and comprises four remaining floors. You can gain access to the tower freely through the western entrance, located on the second floor, or stop and contemplate the gorgeous surroundings. In the distance, Akhaldaba Castle sits amidst a scenic setting, with a captivating mix of forests and a strip of pine trees. The tower and castle complex offer a glimpse into the region’s fascinating history. Photo by Jaba1977, CC BY-SA 4.0 <https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0>, via Wikimedia Commons
