Trapholt Museum

Denmark’s premier design museum exhibits arts, crafts, and the largest collection of designer chairs in the country.

About

The Trapholt Museum is perhaps one of the top destinations in the country for design buffs. The core of the museum’s collection are Danish paintings, sculptures, and furniture from around 1900 to the present. Most notable are the 500 designer chairs, the largest collection of its kind in the country. The “Your Exhibition” section in the basement is one of the museum’s most popular areas. Here, a large part of the museum’s collection is used to illustrate how exhibitions are curated, and then visitors are encouraged to digitally curate their own exhibit using their 10 favourite pieces. The Trapholt Museum makes a physical display of the best suggestions. Most of the museum, however, is used for temporary exhibitions, so there’s always something new on display. Another major attraction is the unique “Kubeflex” modular house designed by Arne Jacobsen, which is the only one of its kind and decorated with the designer’s works.
