Tree of Life

Standing tall on a hill in the barren Arabian Desert, this natural wonder has captured the curiosity of locals and tourists for over 400 years.

About

The Tree of Life is an ancient Prosopis cineraria tree, towering at 9.75 meters high and is estimated to be over 400 years old - defying the harsh desert conditions that surround it. The tree is a solitary oasis in a seemingly barren landscape, its lush green leaves contrasting with the aris surroundings, and draws in approximately 65,000 visitors each year. The biggest mystery is the tree’s continued flourishing despite a lack of rainfall. Some speculate it has an extensive root system that taps into underground water sources. Others believe the tree stands on the site of the Garden of Eden, suggesting a more mystical source of water. An analysis conducted in the 1990’s suggested that the tree was planted in 1582, giving it an extensive and largely unexplained lifetime against the odds of the harsh Arabian Desert.
