This mighty medieval fortress is now a pleasant park and cultural center.
Between the 4th and 7th centuries, the thick walls of Tsari Mali Fortress protected a small village. While the fortress walls fell into ruin, in the 13th century, a church was built on the site. Today, visitors can walk the ruins of the fortress walls, or get a guided tour to learn about the history of the church, its 17th century artwork, and the sacred tree that fell on 08/08/2008. Throughout the year, the fortress also hosts special events such as reenactments, concerts, and movie screenings.
