This open-air museum traces back to the late 1950’s and holds a significant historical connection, as it lies along the old road frequented by pilgrims.
Situated on the path where pilgrims embarked on their journey to the burial church of Olav the Holy, the Nidaros Cathedral in Trondheim, Tylldalen Bygdetun Museum stands as a testament to this ancient pilgrimage route. The museum’s location marks the point where the road descended from the mountains, resonating with the footsteps of pilgrims from centuries past. The museum encompasses the site of the village’s first church and vicarage, and since 1976, a traditional play from the 12th century has been performed at the museum. Beyond the bursting cultural heritage, Tylldalen Bygdetun Museum offers captivating scenic vistas. Overlooking Mt. Tronden on the opposite side of the valley, the museum provides a harmonious blend of cultural history and breathtaking landscapes. The site also features an old youth hall, a shop, weaving room, a granary, barn and sauna.
