Uijeongbu has evolved into a dynamic satellite community, with a historic association with military presence. The city is particularly renowned for its unique culinary offering – budae-jjigae, affectionately known as "army base stew." This comfort food originated during the austere years of the Korean War when locals ingeniously combined surplus ingredients from US military bases, including SPAM and hot dogs, with whatever else they could find. The result is a flavorful dish cooked with spicy gochujang red pepper paste. Uijeongbu is also celebrated for its vibrant shopping scene, with shopping districts dispersed throughout the city. Uijeongbu has embarked on the Green & Beauty City Project, a comprehensive endeavor aimed at enhancing the city's green spaces and overall aesthetic appeal, making it an up-and-coming city with visual allure.
