Ullen Sentalu Museum is a must-see destination for those interested in the history of the royal houses and kratons of Yogyakarta, Surakarta, Pukualam and Mangkunegaran. The name of the museum derives from a Javanese phrase that symbolizes the guiding light in the journey of life, represented by the traditional lampu blencong. Marvel at an extensive collection of paintings, photographs, fabrics, ancient gamelan instruments, Hindu and Buddhist statues, and other valuable historical artifacts from the Mataram Kingdom era. A highlight is the exhibition full of cherished love letters and poems received by Princess Tineke during her period of heartbreak. The museum’s architecture will captivate you with its natural stone pillars resembling a tropical house and a white building reminiscent of a European castle. Explore the basement, a labyrinth floating on water, a garden, and a gallery featuring paintings and statues. The museum is open every day except Monday with an entrance fee of IDR 40,000.
