Ushaiqer Heritage Village

This village offers a captivating window into Saudi Arabia's past, revealing a slower-paced society that has endured for centuries.

About

With a history dating back 1,500 years, Ushaiger was initially settled by Bedouins and swiftly became a vital rest stop for pilgrims en route to Makkah, benefiting from its springs and the shelter of olive and palm groves. Contrary to being an abandoned relic, Ushaiger remains a living community, its narrow lanes and yellow mud houses embodying the echoes of bygone eras. Ushaiger's maze-like layout, nestled between thick walls, features shaded pathways, winding alleyways, and timber-framed walkways that connect numerous mud houses. These structures showcase Najdi architecture, characterized by ornate triangular windows and roofs, as well as intricately carved wooden doors displaying the family names of their residents. The Al Salem museum, curated by village residents, houses an impressive collection of artifacts, from finely embroidered clothing to jewelry, ceramics, weaponry, and cooking utensils. A visit isn't complete without ascending the nearby mountain road, offering a breathtaking vantage point to witness the sprawling village below.
