Uvac Canyon

Visitors to Uvac Canyon will be greeted by a maze of meandering crystal blue waters and forested hilltops. This surreal natural beauty has been created by the river Uvac carving away at the limestone surroundings for centuries. The surrounding nature reserve has become a popular tourism destination and an important site for religious structures such as monasteries as well as the dams required for hydroelectric power plants. The diverse range of flora and fauna here has earned the Uvac Canyon reserve the status of a “special nature reserve.” The most famous of the native critters here is the powerful Griffon Vulture, one of over 140 bird species that reside here. The Griffon Vulture has long been endangered but has found respite in the safety of the nature reserve thanks to organized feeding grounds and other protective measures. This place is a paradise for hikers and bird watchers.
