This 800 year old Abbey has a rich history, and an exceptional brewery.
In 1216, a small number of monks settled in and uninhabited valley, naming it Vallis Dei, the ‘Valley of God’. Over the centuries, the abbey was destroyed and rebuilt on several occasions, with monastic life finally ending in 2001. Since 2002, a small lay-community has lived in the abbey, maintaining it and continuing the time-honored tradition of monastic-beer. Today, visitors can visit the yard, Basilica, and park to relax and admire the historic architecture. For a more in-depth experience, it’s also possible to take a guided tour of the monastery, brewery, or both to admire the architecture and learn about the abbey’s 800 years of history.
