Valcean Village Museum

This reconstruction of a traditional rural settlement is comprised of thoughtfully selected buildings and objects from numerous villages and settlements around the region.

About

At the Valcean Village Museum, visitors can appreciate the incredibly well represented atmosphere of rural Romanian life in the 19th and 20th centuries. This open-air museum is comprised of four main sectors, the first of which is the Household Sector. Consisting of 42 units and over 12,000 museum pieces, this section illustrates the structure of the household and how it varied based on occupations in such industries as agriculture, viticulture, and livestock breeding. The Social-Cultural Sector features several public utility buildings including the early-20th-century school house and a wooden church built in 1785, while the Handicrafts Sector presents popular technical skills and techniques used in the cultivation and processing of various raw materials of the time. The final sector, the Specialized Construction sector, is represented by a number of buildings and objects from the area surrounding the village, including a wine-growing manor and a variety of rustic furniture, ceramics, textiles, and wooden and metal pieces.
