More grave have been discovered at this ancient Roman capital than any other.
Founded in the early 1st century, Viminacium was one of the most important Roman towns in the area for about 500 years. An important military staging area as well as a municipium, the city’s residents grew rich on war and trade. At the end of the 6th century, the city was destroyed by the invading Avars and abandoned. Today, the archaeological site is a font of fascinating history where visitors will find the remains of a vibrant city, complete with Roman baths, frescoes, a highly developed infrastructure, and even ancient tombs, all brought to life by friendly knowledgeable guides.
