Oman
Containing double the region’s natural water supply, the reservoir formed by Oman’s largest dam is a blue oasis in an otherwise desolate landscape.
Completed in 2009, the Wadi Dayqah Dam stands 75 meters high and 410 meters long, making it the largest dam in the country. Because of the searing temperatures in the area, much of the construction work was carried out at night. Built to seal off the Wadi Dayqah, off one of the only year-round rivers in Oman, the resulting 8 kilometer-long lake will be used to supply the region with fresh water, though the infrastructure for this is still being constructed. The azure waters and swath of green lawn at the visitors center create a colorful contrast to the rocky landscape.
