The highest waterfall on the North Island is a breathtaking spectacle.
Pouring 153 meters off a cliff into the valley below, Wairere Falls is undeniably the most amazing cascade on the North Island. To reach the viewing platform at the base of the falls, you first have to hike through the forest, past mossy boulders and a bubbling stream. If you take your time along the way, you’ll be able to spot some indigenous fauna, and hear the songs of the many birds that inhabit the forest. More ambitious hikers can trek another 30-45 minutes to reach the top of the falls and its view of the entire valley below (extend your stop duration to 4 hours for this option).
