Discover one of Humahuaca’s best-kept secrets – a waterfall surrounded by the typical colorful landscape.
Garganta Del Diablo was once a hidden treasure of the valley of Humahuaca. Secret no more, the waterfall now attracts many travelers eager to see yet another beautiful spot in the region. On the way to the waterfall, a scenic road offers impressive views of the valley and the mountains. Eager hikers can begin the path from the city of Tilcara, as the entrance to the waterfall is about 40 minutes away if reached by foot. To reach the waterfall, visitors will have to pay an entrance fee of about 100 pesos per person and walk the last bit of the path by foot, hiking downhill on a steep path. The waterfall itself is appears to be almost hidden between a gorge of red rocks – indeed resembling a devil’s throat – but well-worth the hike. The rest of the path lies along the river and through several viewpoints. Tips: Take waterproof shoes, sunscreen, and water! As the hike is quite demanding, it is not recommended to visit the waterfall during the rainy season.
