Paraguay
After being presumed extinct, these stunning lily pads have emerged once again, to the enjoyment of many tourists to Paraguay.
The Victoria Cruziana water lilies are surely a sight to behold: massive lily pads, up to 2 meters in diameter, with a surface texture akin to crocodile skin which coats the entire surface of a section of the Paraguay river. Having reemerged in full bloom on certain areas of the river, these magnificent flora specimens have long been harvested by those seeking their famed medicinal benefits (though don’t try anything nowadays - such practices are what caused the lilies to almost disappear in the first place!). To get there, you’ll need to get the nearby town of Piquete Cue, where you can hire a boat guide to take you to most lily-filled tributary available.
