Mexico
This charming city grew from fertile swampland.
History shows that Zamora was first settled in the 1500s after a period of several migrations into and out of the region. Luckily for the dominating Spaniards, the fertile swampland was well-suited to agriculture and ultimately allowed the region to flourish through times of peace. Today, a number of beautiful historic buildings in the city center draw in visitors while the people and food keep them there. Grab a seat and people watch in the main plaza while vendors offer up fresh fruits and other sweet treats then stretch your legs and wander around to admire the well-preserved Spanish Colonial buildings. At the stop of the plaza, the striking neo-gothic Cathedral of Our Lady Guadalupe juts 105 meters into the sky and is a must-see, or rather, a can’t miss!
