Poland
Poland has a proud aristocratic history, as this stunning baroque palace can attest.
Zamoyski Palace was built in the first half of 18th century when local voivode (Polish title for an assistant to a military commander or royal) by Michal Bielinski. In acknowledgement of his nation's rich history, he merged continental European style and decor with Polish construction traditions. The estate remained in noble hands until 1944 when it became a state property. Today visitors can admire the stunning architecture and learn about its history in-depth. In palace museum is an eccentric mix, exhibiting the Zamoyski family history, the last noble family that owned the estate, as alongside socialist-realist artworks (a style developed in the USSR, mainly depicting the struggle of working classes), to serve as a reminder of Poland's communist past.
