Cancun, a city designed with luxury, comfort, and entertainment in mind, offers a world of possibilities. Whether you’re a beach enthusiast, a cultural explorer, or a nightlife lover, Cancun has something extraordinary to offer you and your family.
You can breeze through the 55-mile (89 km) drive in a shuttle bus, or take your time to enjoy the journey with a private car transfer. When you take a private car, you can explore natural wonders and tour a Mayan archaeological site along the way—the choice is yours!
So, fasten your seatbelt, grab your sunscreen, and get ready to dive into the tropical paradise that awaits just a short car ride away!
The Mayans inhabited the Cancun area from around 2,000 BCE until the arrival of Spanish conquistadors in the 16th century. They were skilled as architects, astronomers, and traders. The Yucatan Peninsula is dotted with evidence of their impressive cities and temples. You’ve likely heard of Chichen Itza, and maybe smaller sites like the El Rey ruins, which you can visit on your transfer from Puerto Aventuras to Cancun.
The Spanish conquest brought disease and violence, causing a sharp decline in the Mayan population. For centuries, the Yucatan Peninsula remained relatively remote and sparsely populated, with small fishing villages scattered along the coastline.
Cancun’s transformation began in the 1960s when the Mexican government unveiled ambitious plans to create a world-class resort destination on the Caribbean Sea’s shores. With its pristine white-sand beaches, turquoise waters, and abundant sunshine, Cancun was destined to become a tropical paradise. It just needed the infrastructure.
The government heavily invested in developing Cancun’s tourism industry, and in 1970, the first hotel, Playa Blanca, opened its doors in what is now the Hotel Zone. This marked the beginning of Cancun’s ascent as a premier tourist destination. As decades passed, Cancun experienced rapid growth and development, attracting millions of visitors from around the globe each year.
Today, Cancun is a bustling resort city offering a wealth of modern amenities. Its nightlife, culinary scene, and recreational activities make it a magnet for travelers of all tastes and budgets.
As you plan your trip, these tips will help your Puerto Aventuras to Cancun transfer go off without a hitch.
If you stop by the cenotes or wildlife reserve, you will want to reapply your sunscreen and insect repellent for maximum comfort and skin protection. These products have to meet reef-safe standards on the Yucatan Peninsula. If you don’t have reef-safe products, don’t worry, any sold in and around the resorts are compliant.
Don’t leave your trip to chance, especially if you are heading to the airport. It may seem like last-minute taxi and shuttle options are endless on the resorts, but your flight is too important to risk missing it.
And if you're spending a bit more time in Cancun before departing, make sure you book any activities in advance. Those sunset boat trips and snorkeling tours fill up!

Cancun is bigger with more amenities than the smaller resort towns like Puerto Aventuras, so come prepared to try them all. After your Puerto Aventuras to Cancun transfer, drop your bags off at the hotel and have fun!
Explore the world’s second-largest coral reef system on a snorkeling or diving adventure to the Great Mayan Reef. It spans 620 miles (1,000 km) along the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico, down the coast of Belize and Guatemala to the northern shore of Honduras. Second in size only to Australia’s Great Barrier Reef, it has a diverse array of marine life, including a significant population of manatees and other endangered species.
Instructors will teach you the essentials and guide you to this critically endangered ecosystem. It is home to more than 65 species of stony coral and 500 species of fish, so try to spot as many unique species as you can!
Puerto Aventuras keeps it calm in the evenings, but certainly not Cancun! Dance to live music, Reggaeton beats, and techno at one of Cancun’s many nightclubs and bars.
Feeling worn out from all that snorkeling and dancing? No problem—Cancun's world-renowned beaches await with their powdery white sands that extend as far as the eye can see. Lay down a towel and take in the waves from your cozy spot under a shaded umbrella.
Cenotes are natural sinkholes filled with crystal-clear water and formed over thousands of years. They are found all over this region of Mexico and each one is unique. Dive, snorkel, or simply admire the surreal beauty of these freshwater ponds.
If you book Daytrip’s private care service, you can go directly to Cenote Chaak Tun and Cenote Las Mojarras during your transfer. Don’t miss out on this extraordinary experience!
The best time to visit Cancun is during the dry season, which spans from late November to April. During your Puerto Aventuras to Cancun transfer, you can expect sunny skies, warm temperatures, and minimal rainfall. This weather is perfect for lounging on a beach chair, playing volleyball, and going on outdoor adventures to cenotes. Keep in mind, however, that this is also peak tourist season, so be prepared for higher prices and larger crowds.
If you prefer quieter beaches and cooler temperatures, book your trip during the shoulder months of May-June or September-October. Although hurricanes rarely hit Cancun directly, the hurricane season runs from June to November. You might encounter heavy rainfall and tropical storms, and some activities may be canceled due to the weather.
