Loved by travelers from around the world, there are few places in the world more charming than Schonau am Konigssee. A visit to the lake where the water is so clean you can drink it is an essential part of any trip to the region. Three huge mountains surround the crystal-clear waters and where the gushing waterfalls and the green slopes provide a stark contrast to the barren mountains. A trip on one of the boats that glide silently across the Fjord-like waters provides the opportunity to witness the serenity of the Alps. Listen while a flugelhorn is blown amid the incomparable calmness of the lake and be prepared to be astounded by the echo as it makes its way around the mountains. Then you’ll understand why so many people consider Schonau am Konigssee to truly be a place like no other. If you plan on enjoying the boat ride, we suggest increasing your stop time to 3 hours.

Know more about your day trip
The Eagle's Nest (Kehlsteinhaus) was a mountaintop retreat gifted to Adolf Hitler for his 50th birthday. Perched at 6,017 feet, it served as a reception venue for government officials and visiting dignitaries rather than Hitler's regular residence. Today, it's a restaurant and historical site offering panoramic Alpine views. Its significance comes from its connection to Third Reich history and its remarkable engineering.
Access to Eagle's Nest involves a special bus ride up a steep mountain road to a brass elevator embedded in the mountain that ascends the final 124 meters. Your Daytrip driver will take you to the Documentation Center, where you catch this specialized transportation. The Eagle's Nest is typically open from mid-May to mid-October, weather permitting.
Königssee is an emerald-green alpine lake surrounded by steep mountain walls. The main attraction is a boat ride to St. Bartholomä, a picturesque church with distinctive red onion domes. While boat tickets aren't included in your Daytrip price, your driver will assist with purchasing them. The boat ride features a stop where a trumpet player demonstrates the lake's famous echo.
This trip is seasonal. Eagle's Nest is only accessible from mid-May to mid-October due to snow conditions. During winter months (November-April), alternative attractions include the Documentation Center Obersalzberg, Hitler's former Berghof site, and the Königssee (although boat service is limited). Winter visits offer stunning snow-covered landscapes but require appropriate cold-weather clothing.
The Obersalzberg area below Eagle's Nest housed Hitler's Berghof residence and Nazi government buildings. While most structures were bombed or later demolished, the Documentation Center Obersalzberg museum explains this history with photographs and exhibits. Some bunker systems are accessible..
This trip involves moderate walking. At Eagle's Nest, after the bus and elevator, paths around the summit require some walking on uneven terrain. At Königssee, walking from the parking area to the boat dock takes about 10 minutes. The St. Bartholomä area is relatively flat. Those with mobility concerns should note that historical sites may have limited accessibility accommodations.
