Stonehenge is strange, impressive, and older than most of history as we know it. Start at the visitor center, where you’ll see how the stones were moved, placed, and studied. The exhibits give a good overview without being too heavy. Then take the shuttle (or walk, if it’s nice out) to the stones themselves. The path circles the monument so you can take it all in slowly. With the audio guide, you’ll hear the theories, from burial ground to solar calendar. You’ll also see reconstructed Neolithic houses and the wide, open land around the site. It’s quiet, even with other people around. The kind of quiet that feels old.

Salisbury is small, walkable, and full of quiet corners. Its cathedral is the main draw, but the old town around it is just as worth seeing. Start at Salisbury Cathedral. Inside, it’s calm with soaring arches and one of the oldest working clocks in the world. Don’t miss the Magna Carta in the Chapter House, it’s one of just four originals and still easy to read. After the cathedral, walk through Cathedral Close. The green space is peaceful, lined with historic buildings like Mompesson House and Arundells. With the time you have, you can wander through the old town too. Check out the Market Square to browse a shop or two, or just enjoy the narrow medieval streets and timber-framed buildings.
