Budapest to Szentendre and Visegrad: Private day trip

Inhabited since the 9th century, Szentendre was a rather small and unimportant settlement for much of its history, in fact, during a time in the 17th century, just a single family lived here. However, massive migrations of Serbs, and later, Dalmations, revitalized the town. The comfortable, provincial lifestyle just outside of Budapest began attracting artists in the early 20th century - a tradition that’s carried over to today. Visitors can now enjoy the charming, colorful buildings and countless art galleries that make up the town, which is punctuated by seven church towers, each representing a different denomination and era. There are several interesting museums in town, such as the National Wine Museum, Marzipan Museum, and Dobos Confectionary Museum. However, for those interested in traditional Hungarian culture, the open-air Ethnographic Museum (or Skanzen) is the largest in Hungary, having collected 340 historic rural buildings from every region and filled them with thousands of traditional objects.
