Tucked away amongst the rugged cliffs and aquamarine waves of the Tyrrhenian Sea is the beautiful gem of Amalfi, one of the 13 picturesque towns of the Amalfi Coast. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Amalfi Coast is one of the world’s most scenic coastlines. From gorgeous panoramic views to ample history and culture and quintessential Italian cuisine, Amalfi offers a rich slice of South Italy to experience.
Amalfi is the most historic town on the Amalfi Coast, having been an influential Medieval maritime republic. Wandering the sun-kissed streets, you will discover the influence history has had on the town’s architecture, with a maze of narrow streets, hidden courtyards, and steep staircases for you to explore, a strategic design to protect its citizens from invasion. History radiates further from the medieval masterpiece that is St. Andrews Cathedral, which sits proudly in Amalfi’s historical heart.
Strolling the streets your senses will be enlightened. Italian charm oozes from its classic pastel buildings and the many restaurants, cafes, and artisanal shops lining the streets, with scents of lemon and freshly cooked seafood in the air. Here you can taste Italian classics such as spaghetti al limone, enriched with Amalfi lemons, while watching the world go by.
At the water’s edge, you will feel the relaxed atmosphere from the locals and tourists alike soaking up the sun along the promenade that offers stunning sea views. As the sun begins to set, the town illuminates in romantic sparkling lights, views best enjoyed with a limoncello while the sun sets on the jewel of the Amalfi Coast.

Deciding how to get from Naples to Amalfi is a key part of planning your trip to the heavenly Amalfi Coast. While many transportation options are available, a private car service is ultimately the best option as it allows you to enjoy the scenic route to the fullest, being the most convenient, comfortable, and customizable option.
The drive from Naples to Amalfi is around 39 miles (62 km) and takes approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes although this can vary depending on traffic. While convenient, driving a rental car around the Amalfi Coast can be difficult and stressful with narrow winding roads to maneuver and expensive and limited parking. There are also driving restrictions limiting when you can drive based on your license plate.
By public transportation you have to take the train from Naples to Sorrento and then a bus from Sorrento to Amalfi. If you are coming from Naples airport, there is a bus from the parking lot to Sorrento, which makes the trip at least a little easier. While economical, this option is slow as you have to transfer from train to bus. The trains and buses get crowded especially in summer and you have the added inconvenience of luggage handling, so weigh how much you value cost over convenience.
Alternatively, traveling from Naples to Amalfi with Daytrip offers a stress-free and convenient journey that will be just as exciting as the destination. We offer a door-to-door service, so you will be conveniently picked up at your desired location in Naples, including the airport or train station, and dropped off at your Amalfi accommodation, meaning no luggage handling or having to transfer from train to bus. With Daytrip you can schedule your Amalfi transfer to start when you want to rather than when the train departs.
Instead of traveling on cramped public transportation, traveling with Daytrip allows you to travel in customizable comfort. Choose your vehicle, with sedan, MPV, van, or luxury sedan available on this route which all meet our strict safety guidelines.
With Daytrip, you also have the luxurious option of adding world-renowned sightseeing stops to your journey, allowing you to explore more of the Amalfi Coast with ease. From our hand-picked recommendations such as the UNESCO-listed Herculaneum or Ravello, to another spot along the way not listed on our website that you can request via our custom route form, turn your private transportation into an adventure of discovery along the Amalfi Coast!
Instead of driving around the winding narrow roads yourself, with Daytrip you can sit back, relax, and enjoy the scenic drive with a private driver who is experienced and familiar with the roads. Your friendly English-speaking driver will be happy to share with you local knowledge and tips to enhance your journey, allowing you an opportunity to connect to the culture of South Italy from a local perspective.
In short, a private car service offers the most freedom and convenience to enjoy the picturesque journey to the fullest with our door-to-door service and the option to customize your itinerary.
Arriving in Amalfi you will be greeted with spectacular views of the historic town and turquoise sea, a wealth of history and culture, and the sweet scent of lemons in the air.
Begin at the serene harbor, where the sparkling waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea meet the golden sand. Colorful boats bob in the bay and parasols flutter in the breeze. Behind you, iconic white buildings are nestled amongst the dramatic hills, where you can spot the medieval watchtowers at the peak. Stroll along the promenade, taking in the views at your leisure while enjoying a gelato. Step foot on the beach to relax to the calming sounds of the waves, or swim in the pristine blue waters.
Then enter the historic heart of Amalfi through the Porta della Marina gateway, where you will find the charming Piazza del Duomo, Amalfi’s main square bustling with life. Admire Saint Andrew’s Fountain, adorned with the sculptures of Amalfi’s patron saint standing amongst cherubs and angels. Look up to see the breathtaking Amalfi Cathedral, which sits proudly at the top of the 63-step staircase. Climb the staircase to enter the cathedral decorated with intricate mosaics, fine paintings, and golden ceilings.
Head back onto Piazza del Duomo to explore Amalfi’s main street that leads off from the square, where many shops offer local products. From limoncello to handmade ceramics, you will be sure to find a special souvenir here. You will also find many restaurants for alfresco dining or a refreshing limoncello spritz, perfect after strolling and sightseeing.
Go off the beaten track and explore the hidden beauty of the narrow side streets, where buildings adorned with balconies and flowers are nestled alongside stone steps for you to climb and admire the views of the sea and the town from above.
With picturesque views, an abundance of history and culture, and the chance to try some authentic Italian food and drink, Amalfi is a true gem of the Amalfi Coast.

Nov 7, 2021“Efficient, highly professional, relaxing and friendly service - I was very pleasantly surprised. We were tired and stressed flying in a pandemic to my daughter's wedding which could not be postponed. Our driver immediately put us at ease with his warm and reassuring manner, whilst maintaining high standards of hygiene and social distancing. The vehicle was immaculate and a glass screen partitioned the driver from the passengers. En route to the Amalfi Coast from Naples we were given thoughtful details of the area and highlights were pointed out as we passed them. On return to the airport the company responded very responsively to my last minute anxious email that we were indeed being picked up at the allocated time and the driver arrived promptly with a friendly welcome. Again our return was smoothly carried out and our driver kept us up to date on expected arrival times in a calm and friendly manner. I can not recommend this service enough. It was brilliant and we shall be using them again - what an excellent find!”

Sep 6, 2020“Our driver, Alfonso S. was the best! Our group of 6 booked a trip from Naples Airport to Amalfi, with a stop for lunch and a tour at an organic winery. Alfonso, our driver, made this journey such a pleasure. He was punctual, extremely friendly and courteous, and gave us an entertaining talk about local history and information along the way. He was an excellent and very safe driver, which we appreciate. If we have thr opportunity again to book a trip in this area, we would request Alfonso S. Many thanks to him for making our journey such a pleasure.”

Jul 4, 2019All Daytrip drivers speak English* as well as their native language (and sometimes additional languages too!). They'll be happy to discuss local history and culture with you, as well as answer any questions you may have. And because they speak the language, they're able to provide you with a unique opportunity to connect with local culture. *Drivers for Lite service aren't required to speak English but must meet all other standards.
We screen all our drivers for criminal and traffic records, and personally interview each one. We also inspect their cars for safety, comfort, and reliability. All cars must be less than ten years old, in excellent operating condition, and insured as required by local law. And because our drivers are locals, they're familiar with the rules and customs of the road.
If you’re traveling with children, make sure to let us know in the booking so we can get the appropriate child seats ready!
Pets are allowed (and loved)! We just need to know beforehand. You can tell us about them in the next phase of the booking.
Gratuity isn’t included or required, but if you really enjoyed your trip, you can show your driver your appreciation with an optional tip (10% is sufficient).
Each passenger is allowed to have one checked bag and one carry on. If you’re traveling with more bags or oversized luggage, you can adjust this while booking.
Pay by credit card online, or in cash directly to your driver!
If you have any questions, here are the answers.
