1
Bergamo
Feel free to explore at your own pace and discover
Stop: 4 h 10 min - admission not included
Two cities in one: refined lower streets below, medieval splendor crowning the hill above. Begin your visit in Bergamo’s Citta Alta (old town) by riding the historic funicular up the hill, arriving near Piazza Mercato delle Scarpe. Spend time wandering toward Piazza Vecchia, the city’s elegant heart, framed by the Palazzo della Ragione and Biblioteca Angelo Mai. Step inside Santa Maria Maggiore to admire its richly decorated interior, then cross to the 15th-century Colleoni Chapel, a masterpiece of Renaissance detail. Continue with a walk along the Venetian Walls, a UNESCO-listed circuit offering panoramic views across Lombardy. Finish your visit with a light lunch or coffee before descending back toward the lower city for your onward journey.

Brescia Castle
Feel free to explore at your own pace and discover
Stop: 2 h 30 min - admission not included
A fortress where centuries of military power and culture converge high above the city. Brescia Castle dominates its hilltop position, telling the story of a city shaped by conquest, defense, and resilience. Built over Roman remains and expanded throughout the medieval period, the fortress later became a key Venetian stronghold. Today, its wide paths and open courtyards invite unhurried exploration, while panoramic viewpoints reward the climb. Museums within the complex offer further historical depth for those interested. The castle grounds are open from September to May from 6:00 a.m. until 11:00 p.m., while the museums inside have more limited hours. It's recommended to check these online as they can differ. Please note that admission to the castle, museums, and any additional activities is not included in your transfer and must be purchased separately.

Daytrip is loved all around the world. Here's why.
Many of Bergamo's outdoor spaces, including Piazza Vecchia and the Venetian Walls, are free to enjoy. Some interior attractions, such as the Colleoni Chapel and certain exhibitions, charge a modest admission. The funicular ticket is inexpensive and runs frequently. None of these admission costs are included in the transfer price and should be budgeted separately.
Bergamo is about 32 miles (51 km) from Milan, roughly a 45-minute drive. From Bergamo, Brescia is a further 30 miles (49 km) east, adding around 35 minutes. Both cities sit along the A4 motorway, making the combined route straightforward and easy to navigate.
Both destinations involve a fair amount of walking on uneven or hilly terrain. Bergamo's upper town requires taking the funicular and then navigating cobblestoned streets. Brescia Castle involves an uphill walk from the city below. Comfortable, sturdy footwear is strongly recommended for this trip.
Absolutely. Bergamo's upper town alone deserves several hours of exploration. Between the funicular ride, the Piazza Vecchia, Santa Maria Maggiore, the Colleoni Chapel, and a walk along the Venetian Walls, the morning passes quickly. Factor in time for a coffee or lunch before heading to Brescia Castle in the afternoon.
The Citta Alta, or upper town, is Bergamo's medieval heart, perched on a hill and surrounded by UNESCO-listed Venetian walls. It is reached by a historic funicular and features beautifully preserved piazzas, Renaissance architecture, and landmark churches including Santa Maria Maggiore and the ornate Colleoni Chapel. The views from the walls across the Lombardy plain are exceptional.
The most enjoyable way to reach the Citta Alta is by the historic funicular from the lower city, which deposits visitors near Piazza Mercato delle Scarpe. From there, the upper town is entirely walkable and compact enough to cover on foot in a few hours. The Venetian Walls circuit offers a longer walk with panoramic views if time allows.
Bergamo has a strong local food identity. The city is famous for casoncelli, a type of stuffed pasta typically served with butter, sage, and pancetta. Polenta, brasato (braised beef), and locally produced cheeses are also regional staples. The cafes and restaurants around Piazza Vecchia and Via Colleoni in the upper town offer a good selection.
Brescia Castle, known as the Falcon of Italy, sits on a hill above the city and is one of the largest castle complexes in Italy. The castle grounds are generally open to visitors and offer sweeping views over Brescia. The museums inside have more restricted hours and it is best to check them online before your visit. Admission to the castle, museums, and any other activities is not included in the transfer price.
