About Genting Highlands

Located about 5,905 feet (1800 meters) above sea level on the peak of Mount Ulu Kali is Genting Highlands. After enjoying the fresh air of the Cameron Highlands on a business trip, the late Malaysian businessman Lim Goh Tong decided to build a hill resort near Kuala Lumpur. In 1965 he opened the Genting Highlands resort, complete with theme parks and casinos.

Since its inception, Genting Highlands has continuously expanded and redesigned itself. Today, there are seven hotels, including the Guinness World Record holder for the world’s largest hotel, theme parks with both indoor and outdoor rides, shopping malls, restaurants, and casinos. The Genting SkyWorlds is the main theme park broken into sections based on 20th Century Fox movies. There’s a Rio de Janeiro area based on the movie “Rio”, the “Ice Age” area, and the “Robots Rivet Town”. Being at a higher elevation, Genting Highlands boasts pleasant weather year-round, with temperatures generally ranging from 77 °F to 50 °F (25 °C to 10 °C), with the coldest recorded temperature being 47.1°F (8.4°C). It’s the perfect place to refresh from the heat and humidity of Malaysia’s lowlands.

From Singapore to Genting Highlands: travel tips

Traveling from Singapore to Genting Highlands is relatively easy and straightforward—it’s one of the most popular resorts in Malaysia! But to ensure you have the best experience possible, follow a few easy travel tips.

Take a private car service

You’re crossing an international border on your way to a fun resort and casino. Taking a private car removes all the hassle and any potential setbacks. Daytrip’s professional drivers will get you across the border, to your sightseeing stops, and to Genting Highlands in comfort.

### Beware of scammers Every country has scammers. Internet dating scams and financial scams are two common fields to keep an eye out for. In Malaysia be mindful, especially if you’re a male, of the “card game scams” that offer attractive rewards. A sneakier scam targets your credit/debit card(s). Even in international hotels credit card magnetic strips have been duplicated. It’s recommended to avoid using card readers that appear a bit off and check your banking app regularly for any suspicious withdrawals or transactions. This is especially true since Malaysia uses a different currency, so you’ll need to withdraw or exchange once you cross the border. ### Make sure the taxi uses the meter Taxi drivers have the power to ignite your day trip or ruin it. Even though it’s illegal for taxi drivers to not use the meter, many will try to push that option. Make sure they’ll use the meter before you get into the car or transfer yourself to another taxi or a private car service like Daytrip.
