Overview: car trip from Singapore to Genting Highlands

The car trip from Singapore to Genting Highlands covers about 250 miles (400km) but brings you through two different countries, from one of the most modern cities in the world to one of the most unique resorts on the planet.

Your private driver will bring you from your desired pick-up point in Singapore directly to the check-in at Genting Highlands without you having to lift a finger. Along the way, you can immerse yourself in Malaysian culture. Talk with your English-speaking driver or stop for sightseeing at UNESCO-listed Malacca or the underground temple in the Batu Caves.

About Genting Highlands

Located about 5,905 feet (1800 meters) above sea level on the peak of Mount Ulu Kali is Genting Highlands. After enjoying the fresh air of the Cameron Highlands on a business trip, the late Malaysian businessman Lim Goh Tong decided to build a hill resort near Kuala Lumpur. In 1965 he opened the Genting Highlands resort, complete with theme parks and casinos.

Since its inception, Genting Highlands has continuously expanded and redesigned itself. Today, there are seven hotels, including the Guinness World Record holder for the world’s largest hotel, theme parks with both indoor and outdoor rides, shopping malls, restaurants, and casinos.

The Genting SkyWorlds is the main theme park broken into sections based on 20th Century Fox movies. There’s a Rio de Janeiro area based on the movie “Rio”, the “Ice Age” area, and the “Robots Rivet Town”.

Being at a higher elevation, Genting Highlands boasts pleasant weather year-round, with temperatures generally ranging from 77 °F to 50 °F (25 °C to 10 °C), with the coldest recorded temperature being 47.1°F (8.4°C). It’s the perfect place to refresh from the heat and humidity of Malaysia’s lowlands.

From Singapore to Genting Highlands: travel tips

Traveling from Singapore to Genting Highlands is relatively easy and straightforward—it’s one of the most popular resorts in Malaysia! But to ensure you have the best experience possible, follow a few easy travel tips.

Take a private car service

You’re crossing an international border on your way to a fun resort and casino. Taking a private car removes all the hassle and any potential setbacks. Daytrip’s professional drivers will get you across the border, to your sightseeing stops, and to Genting Highlands in comfort.

Beware of scammers

Every country has scammers. Internet dating scams and financial scams are two common fields to keep an eye out for. In Malaysia be mindful, especially if you’re a male, of the “card game scams” that offer attractive rewards.

A sneakier scam targets your credit/debit card(s). Even in international hotels credit card magnetic strips have been duplicated. It’s recommended to avoid using card readers that appear a bit off and check your banking app regularly for any suspicious withdrawals or transactions. This is especially true since Malaysia uses a different currency, so you’ll need to withdraw or exchange once you cross the border.

Make sure the taxi uses the meter

Taxi drivers have the power to ignite your day trip or ruin it. Even though it’s illegal for taxi drivers to not use the meter, many will try to push that option. Make sure they’ll use the meter before you get into the car or transfer yourself to another taxi or a private car service like Daytrip.

How to go from Singapore to Genting Highlands

Since Genting Highlands is on top of a mountain, you have limited transportation options. Read on to see how to get from Singapore to Genting Highlands.

Singapore to Genting Highlands by private car service

Daytrip's private car service is the easiest and most comfortable way to get from Singapore to Genting Highlands. Your English-speaking driver will pick you up in Singapore, and bring you to your hotel in Genting Highlands, covering the 251-mile (404 km) distance in about 5 hours. You won't have to worry about figuring out the border crossing, or any other aspect of the trip. Unlike being stuck on a crowded bus for several hours, with a private car, you have the freedom to stop for a quick break, or even prolonged sightseeing!

Singapore to Genting Highlands by bus

The bus is the cheapest way to get from Singapore to Genting Highlands. Bus tickets cost between $9-29 and the trip takes 6 to 12 hours. While buses have amenities like air conditioning and bathrooms, being stuck in one for several hours isn't the best way to travel. You’ll be bound to follow bus schedules which may depart at inconvenient hours and involve transfers. Be aware you'll also need to get out and take your luggage across the border crossing.

Singapore to Genting Highlands by rental car

If you plan on doing some exploring, a rental car is the most flexible way to get from Singapore to Genting Highlands. The main hurdle is finding a rental car company that lets you cross the border and the additional fee that comes with that privilege. There are three main routes to Genting Highlands. The driving time ranges from five hours to six hours and 50 minutes. Keep in mind that there may be tolls and that you will definitely have to cross a border, so research the process in advance.

Things to do when you get to Genting Highlands

After your trip from Singapore, when you get to Genting Highlands, you'll find yourself on a mountaintop filled with things to do. Here are some of the best activities at this hill station resort:

Just be responsible!

Go for a ride

Whether you're traveling as a family, or just want some solo fun, Genting's mountain top theme parks can easily keep you occupied for your entire visit. Enjoy the view from the rides, visit a snowy European village at SnowWorld, or go on wild adventures in Sky VR.

Party into the night

Singaporean nightlife brand Zouk has you covered for more mature entertainment. Dance into the night at the Empire Nightclub, have a delicious dinner at FUHU, or sing your favorite songs at karaoke. You'll find no shortage of things to do after the sun sets.

Explore the mountain

Along with Resorts World Genting, there are a few attractions a little lower down the mountain worth visiting. Stop by the Chin Swee Caves Temple for a peaceful stroll 4,600 feet above sea level protected by a Buddha statue known for summoning rain and subduing evil spirits.

Happy Bee Farm & Insect World is another interesting visit. This apiary and insect wonderland opens daily from 9 AM until 9 PM. Here, you'll learn about local honey production and taste a bit of their heavenly honey. The farm also has a “Butterfly Wonderland”' to study local species.

Enjoy the view

You’re going to be elevated, it’d be a shame not to take in the view properly. Head over to Genting Corners View Point for a breathtaking glimpse of the road you’ve traveled through. Save this for a clear day, when the fog disappears.

It was a fantastic trip.

“We were extremely satisfied with the quality of service we received from Day Trip. We had two Day Trip rides on August 31 from Athens to Lefkada and September 7 from Lefkada back to Athens. Both trips included stops at scenic sites in Greece. Both drivers were excellent and accommodating. However, we’d especially like to recognize Panos Peppas, who was our driver from Lefkada to Athens. Panos was incredibly nice & pleasant and delivered outstanding customer service, which included handling all of luggage, providing us with cold waters throughout the trip, providing us protein bars, providing us with printed materials on the Corinth Canal (one of scenic stops), looking up and providing us with terminal & gate info for our flight back home and providing us with a recipe for tzatziki.”

Reasonably Priced and Safe Transportation

“Gonzalo from daytrip was our driver and he was absolutely amazing. He went over and beyond trying to locate us as our service wasn't so good on our phones. He patiently awaited our arrival to the lobby so he could take us from Tulum Dreams Resort to our other hotel in cancun an hour and a half away near the airport prior to our departure flight home. He was polite, respectful and kind. Made sure we were comfortable during our long ride. Fast and to the point. I recommend this company as finding a one way ride from Tulum to Cancun isn't easy or cheap and this company provides a great service for a great price. I will definitely be using them again whenever I'm in the Cancun/Tulum area. Thank you DayTrip and Gonzola.”

Daytrip never disappoints

“We were picked up by Marianna to drive us from Heraklion to Chania. The weather was terrible & due to this Marianna arrived a few minutes late. She contacted me to advise of this. Marianna lives in Chana and she made our trip very interesting by informing us of local things to do and see in Chania. Marianna is a safe driver and we all felt comfortable with the speed she drove at and how good her driving was in heavy rain. She is a lovely person with fluent English. We highly recommend Daytrips and if you are in Heraklion or Chania please make sure you ask for Marianna.”

Great way to travel and see some sights on the way

“We did not know what to expect with this trip and booked from Australia. We were initially looking for an easy way to travel from Granada to Malaga. We decided not to waste the opportunity to see something additional on our way. Miguel certainly exceeded our expectations. His English was excellent (unfortunately we speak very little Spanish), and he was very friendly and helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed hearing about the regions as we passed through and also discussing some of the local ways. Miguel took us to Antequera as planned and ensured we were able to easily get our tickets to the attractions without any sense of rushing us. We were picked up and dropped off punctually and really enjoyed our trip. Hopefully we will return to Spain and we can use this service again sometime.”

“We used the service twice while in Thailand. Extremely prompt and efficient customer service. Best rate being offered in Chiang Mai for the travels. Polite, punctual, professional and English speaking drivers. Clean, comfortable vehicles. Being a regular visitor to Thailand, this was hands down the best service. Most pleased with the company. I hope it sustains the excellence of service that was rendered to us.”
