At the point where the paved road ends and the High Atlas begins, Setti Fadma is the most dramatically situated village in the Ourika Valley, a cluster of terraced houses built against the cliff face above a rushing river.
What to see
- Stroll through the village itself, with its Berber architecture of flat-roofed stone houses, terrace gardens, and the narrow footbridge across the Ourika river
- Explore the lower waterfall, a short walk upstream, surrounded by walnut trees and wild flowers; six more falls are accessible on a longer mountain hike above
- Visit the weekly Berber market (Mondays), when farmers and traders from the surrounding valleys fill the riverside with produce, spices, and livestock
What to do
- Walk the valley path upstream to the first waterfall; sturdy footwear recommended
- Sit at one of the riverside restaurants for a traditional Berber lunch of tagine or harira What to eat
- Lamb tagine with prunes and almonds, or vegetable couscous served with Moroccan mint tea
