Parada: 5 horas - entrada no incluida
Founded by the ancient Greeks, Cefalu was originally an agricultural settlement. In the 12th century, King Roger II of Sicily shaped the town as it stands today, having it moved to the shore to take advantage of the excellent harbour, and had the Byzantine-style cathedral built. Today, the cathedral is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that preserves the town’s unique Byzantine, Arabic, and Christian heritage be combining all three styles in its beautiful mosaics and elegant architecture. After admiring the cathedral, visitors can work their way down through the medieval alleys to the picturesque harbour. En route are several historic landmarks, such as a 16th century bath house, and part of a huge 13th-century palace. In the Museo Mandralisca, a relatively small collection showcases the town’s rich history through artefacts like a 4th century BC vase decorated with a fishmonger chopping a tuna.

Daytrip es amado en todo el mundo. Aquí está el porqué.
Cefalu is approximately 43 miles (70 km) east of Palermo along the A20 coastal motorway. The drive takes around 50 to 60 minutes and follows the Tyrrhenian coast, offering pleasant sea views along the way. It is a straightforward and scenic journey that makes for a comfortable start to the day.
Entry to the cathedral is not free. A ticket is required to visit the interior, and it is worth purchasing this at the entrance when you arrive. The cathedral can become busy during summer mornings, so arriving at opening time is a good strategy. Appropriate attire is required: shoulders and knees must be covered to enter, and wraps are sometimes available at the door.
Cefalu's beach is one of the most attractive in northern Sicily, with clear water and a fine sandy strip overlooked by La Rocca cliff and the Norman cathedral behind. The swimming season runs from late May through October, with sea conditions typically at their best in July and August. The beach is free to access, though private lido sections with sun loungers are available for a fee.
Cefalu's harbor restaurants and town-center cafes offer excellent fresh seafood, including grilled swordfish, pasta with sea urchin, and stuffed squid. The town is also famous for its arancini, granita (a crushed ice drink popular in summer), and cannoli. Having a granita with a brioche roll for breakfast is a classic Sicilian experience that is particularly enjoyable in a seafront cafe overlooking the harbor.
Cefalu's standout attraction is its UNESCO World Heritage cathedral, built in the 12th century by Norman King Roger II and featuring extraordinary Byzantine mosaics in the apse. From the cathedral, medieval lanes lead down to the picturesque harbor. Other highlights include the remains of a 13th-century palace, a 16th-century bathhouse (lavatoio), the Museo Mandralisca with its notable Portrait of an Unknown Man painting, and the coastal rock known as La Rocca.
La Rocca is the dramatic rocky promontory that rises steeply above Cefalu's old town. A steep pathway leads up to the ancient Greek temple ruins at the summit, offering spectacular panoramic views over the town, the cathedral, the beach, and the Tyrrhenian Sea. The climb takes around 30 to 45 minutes each way and involves steep stone steps. It is best done in the morning before the heat of the day.
Cefalu became internationally recognizable after being used as a filming location for The White Lotus Season 2. The show's dramatic opening scene was filmed on Cefalu's beach, and the town's Norman cathedral and seafront area feature in several scenes throughout the series. Visitors familiar with the show will easily recognize these locations during their visit.
Spring (April to June) and early autumn (September to October) offer the most comfortable conditions, with warm weather ideal for exploring the town and swimming. Summer is the most vibrant season, with the beach in full swing and the town lively, though it can be hot and busy. Visiting in the morning during peak summer allows you to enjoy the cathedral and old town before the midday heat intensifies.
