Car trip from Venice to Milan
On one end of the road from Venice to Milan is an ancient city floating in the Adriatic Sea, soaked in culture, refinement, and waterways so pretty they've become a romantic symbol worldwide. On the other is the home of luxury, a city paved with designer stores, chic cocktail bars, and lavish historical landmarks. Connecting them is a 152-mile car trip through the rolling Italian countryside
This breathtaking road trip begins with Venice's colorful buildings moving to your rearview mirror as you speed by the turquoise waters and out of the city. It's not long before blue waters transform into green fields, scenic woodlands, and sprawling vineyards.
After crossing the border from Veneto to Lombardy, rural villages will guide you to the soaring peaks at Lake Garda. After stopping to appreciate the mesmerizing setting, Milan's skyline quickly comes into view. Historical domes, ancient towers, and contemporary skyscrapers mark the end of this bucket-list experience.
If you're fortunate enough to embark on one of Europe's great journeys, you've come to the right place. We created a one-stop-shop guide for everything you need to know about getting from Venice to Milan in 2024!
About Milan
After your picture-perfect drive from Venice to Milan, you'll have reached your final destination and Italy's second-largest city. Milan has a population of over 3 million, but that number triples throughout the year, with almost 6 million people visiting for luxury shopping and many world-class design events.
Milan's strategic position just 31 miles south of the Swiss border also attracts visitors on their way to nearby ski resorts in winter and its glimmering lakes for swimming in the summer. Its location at the foothills of the Alp mountain range is also a key reason for its rapid growth throughout history.
Historic Milan
Milan's fortunes hit the ground running after the Celts inhabited the land in 590 BC. Within three centuries, the Roman Army controlled the region and renamed the town Mediolanum. The then ruler, Marcus Claudius Marcellus, saw the jagged terrain as a natural defense structure to prevent other European armies from invading.
Even after the fall of the Roman Empire and the hardships of the Middle Ages, Milan continued to prosper. The Sforza family was arguably the most influential during this timeframe. Their love of art brought much cultural wealth to the region, and their visions of expanding the city began with the construction of both the Sforza Castle and the iconic Duomo Cathedral.
Modern Milan
Even after suffering significant damage during air raids during World War II, Milan bounced back. Its focus on industrialization, including manufacturing and textiles, was essential to gaining revenue to rebuild the exquisite region and move forward into a 21st-century city.
Today, the city has more than recovered. It officially became the Fashion Capital of the World in 2019, and millions of celebrities and tourists flock to the streets to indulge in luxury brands or catch a glimpse of their favorite stars. Its elegant architecture and streets packed with trendy cocktail bars are the perfect setting for everyone to relax after an action-packed shopping day.

How to Get From Venice to Milan
It's only fitting that a mesmerizing journey has several modes of transportation. However, you must weigh your needs and preferences to decide how to get from Venice to Milan.
Train from Venice to Milan
The train is the quickest way to travel from Venice to Milan. But there are two services with differing costs and durations.
A high-speed service with Italotreno can whisk you from the east to the center of Italy in only 2 hours and 6 minutes. Understandably, these luxury tickets are more expensive than the regional trains. Expect to pay between €15 and €20 if you book more than 30 days before departure. Or tickets rise between €20 and €35 if you wait until the last minute.
Regional trains with Trenitalia are the ideal way to travel on a budget. Tickets start at only €9.90 and rarely rise above €20, even if you purchase them at the train station. The journey from Venice Santa Lucia Station to Milano Centrale will take between 2.5 and 3 hours.
Bus from Venice to Milan
The bus is a runner-up when traveling from Venice to Milan by public transportation. The journey is longer and less comfortable than the train. So, most travelers only use a coach when the train is full. Or when the service doesn't suit their schedule.
Flixbus and Itabus operate on this route. The latter offers seats for only €3 one-way. As a result, this is by far the cheapest way to travel, but the trip can take up to 4 hours, almost twice as long as the alternative.
Daytrip private car from Venice to Milan
If you desire style and comfort on a scenic drive along the flat plains of northern Italy, look no further than Daytrip. Our private door-to-door service picks you up from your address in Venice (or a convenient meeting point if you're on the pedestrian-only island) and gracefully drops you off at your new one in Milan.
Whether it's summer or winter, adjust the thermostat to your liking, recline your seat, and watch in amazement as we provide a front-row seat to Italy's sensational natural wonders. If you wish to step into these stunning pictures, stop at Borghetto sul Mincio’s fairytale village or return to the past at the majestic Castello di Monselice.

Things to Do When You Get to Milan
After a relaxing ride from Venice, you'll be ready to get out and explore the best things to see and do when you get to Milan. But before you charge blindly into the plethora of attractions, put the city highlights on your travel schedule!
Visit Sforzesco Castle
Visiting the Sforzesco Castle is one of the best things to do in Milan, and it won't cost you a penny. Although you can get guided tours explaining the stories and richness of its past, you can enter its distinctive red brick walls and roam its expansive courtyard for free.
As a bonus, you can also visit Parco Sempione. This urban oasis is the perfect place to relax during a busy day of sightseeing. Grab fresh local produce from a farmers market and enjoy a picnic on the grass or on designated benches.
Immerse yourself in Duomo Square
A simple Google search of Milan will present endless photos of Duomo Square. But something the pictures can't illustrate is the vibrant energy bubbling in the heart of the city's cultural scene.
In just one swift turn of the neck, you can admire the beauty of Duomo Cathedral's gothic architecture, Italy's oldest-running shopping mall, Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, and the refined design of the Royal Palace. The best place to appreciate the view with a refreshing drink is Terrazza Duomo 21, overlooking the vicinity.
Indulge in apertivo
Did you know that for only €12, you can get a delicious handcrafted cocktail and unlimited food during apertivo?
The period between 5:00 and 8:00 PM is like a religion for Italians. Locals get together with friends and family, surrounded by drinks and light bites. Aperol Spritz is the cocktail of choice, accompanied by cured meats, bread, and cheeses. But many establishments even offer slices of pizza and dishes of pasta.
Almost every bar around town participates in this daily tradition. The Brera District is the most beautiful place to enjoy the nightlife. However, Navigli's canal-lined lanes are the spiritual home of the city. Avoid the main streets and explore the side lanes to find an authentic setting!
When Is the Best Time to Visit Milan?
Milan is a fascinating city worth visiting on any day of the year. But its popularity in the summer and the freezing winter temperatures mean the shoulder seasons are the best time to travel from Venice to Milan.
Milan in the Spring
You get more pleasant weather than in the summer if you travel in the spring. The average temperature of 77° Fahrenheit isn't overwhelming and lets you enjoy outdoor walking tours. Outside of the city's big events, you'll find fewer tourist crowds, meaning you can immerse yourself in Milan at your own pace.
Milan in the Fall
Milan's leafy walkways turn red and orange as the fall months from September to November approach. It's the most beautiful time to visit and the best time to get the most bang for your buck. Hotels, airlines, and tours all offer attractive discounts to fill spaces before the quiet winter season.

Transporte seguro y a precio razonable
